Along with the launch of the new iPad, Apple launched its 3rd generation Apple TV. The updated Apple TV features a “streamlined new interface,” an upgraded processor, and a low power Bluetooth 4.0.
Though the box looks like the 2nd generation model, changes have been made to the internals of the box. The biggest difference is the support of 1080p content, but the updated Apple TV also has an A5 SoC Processor and an updated RAM of 512 MB, an upgrade from the 256 MB of the previous generation.
The user interface of the Apple TV is smartly designed and very easy to use, especially in comparison to other products available on the market. While the user interface of the previous Apple TV was dominated by text, Apple has opted for icons in the newest version for an iOS-like feel.
The new Apple TV has the sleek design of an Apple product and improved internals, but there are still questions about the product. Will this new version try to set its feet in the set-top competition? Will it be able to earn a slot in your home theater stack? We’ll have to take a wait-and-see approach to see if the general public adopts the newest iteration of the Apple TV, but the changes are certainly a step in the right direction. It has been priced at just $99 making it very affordable, and surely deserves consideration for inclusion in your home theater.
