In the new iOS 5.1, many people don’t like the camera grabber on the lock screen. If you are one of them then we have a good news for you. Now, you can change the camera button-style lock screen (Camera application launcher) to iOS 5.0.1 and iOS 5.0 using a free jailbreak tweak dubbed Redire by iOS developer Ron Melkhior. By this tweak, when you double-press the home button on the lock screen then the camera button appears.
With Ori Kadosh’s free jailbreak tweak, Camera Grabber for iOS 5, you can bring the iOS 5.1 camera grabber to older iOS versions. This doesn’t mean that Ron Melkhior tweak is just an opposite to Ori Kadosh’s.
The camera grabber is a nice way to launch the Camera application because it requires less actions from the user to get the Camera application open. But this is also one of the reaons to the downfall of the camera grabber feature, as people could inadvertently open the Camera application quite easily.
In comparison with two (the lock screen camera button and camera grabber), camera grabber requires a double-press of the home button, which offers more of a fail-safe against accidents. It also brings up the lock screen’s iPod controls, where the camera grabber could launch the Camera application without showing the iPod controls.
The tweak is free, so if you are running iOS 5.1, then give it a try. This tweak should not be installed on any other iOS firmware and there are no options to configure.
Requirements: iOS 5.1, iPhone or iPod touch
