Upgrading Windows 7 from RC to RTM
Brando | August 9, 2009After much anticipation, I had a successful Windows 7 upgrade, but thought it would be a good idea to share a few tips on upgrading. As the DVD/ISO is shipped, you cannot upgrade from RC to RTM. To fix this, as with previous versions, copy the files to a folder on your local hard drive. There is a file located in the sources folder called cversion.ini. Edit this file with notepad and change the value of the WinClient to less than or equal to 7100 (the RC build). This will allow you to upgrade.
Additionally, if you download the ISO and will be installing multiple flavors of Win 7 (professional, enterprise, home premium), you can delete the ei.cfg file and you will be prompted which version to install.
One last note, if you are using an ATI video card, it’s best to uninstall the Catalyst Control Center before upgrading as you will have to reinstall it once you have completely upgraded. Feel free to share your upgrade experiences in the comments below!

Damn, that sound's so easy if you think about it.
