All of us are addicted to the Android phone so that we use it even while we are on a walk. Sometimes we lose our mind and lost in our Android phone and don’t remember where we were going. So there is a brand new App for such people. The latest app in the Android market makes use of camera to give a transparent user interface. It displays the image of the road behind your Android device so that you feel it easier to type and also keep an eye on the road.

So whenever you are doing something on your Android phone while you are on a walk, this App will let you see what is there behind your phone. It just uses your device’s camera and takes image of what your camera is watching. You are not actually having a transparent device similar to one in the movie Avatar. Take a look at the image below to get an idea of what this App is all about.

One big thing that you may note about this app is that, you can not change the level of transparency. The developer of this app may be interested in providing this feature into a paid version. After all, you may need to pay some money for customizing this app. Let’s wait for the update of latest version or a paid version of Transparent Screen for Android.

The developer of this app has given few lines about the app. “You want to use your phone while you’re walking? Make your screen transparent!” The transparent screen for android is the best solution of using your Android device while walking. This is perhaps first move towards transparent devices.

You can download Transparent Screen for Android app from the Android Market right now and enjoy using it.

Google has provided users with some pretty incredible services, biggest of all being the Android operating system, since then, they’ve been working hard to keep their users happy and Google Voice has been there for its users for quite a while, but up until Gingerbread 2.3, it’s been the best-kept secret in Android and Google. There are other VoIP services out there, but none of which are integrated actually in the OS. Skype is a great service, millions of users and multi conference HD video calling is nothing to scoff at, and while Google hasn’t reached the HD mass conference calling, they’ve provided a free service to all customers using Google products like Gmail and Android.

Things about Google Voice that average geek doesn’t know, which are pretty awesome, are cross platform calling, wherever you are. This is great for users across the world to contact other users to their phone, or to other users logged on to their laptops. Having served in the military, Google offers you FREE overseas calling to US customers, which is more than enough reason to jump ship from any other VoIP service simply because no other service offers you this. Users can even text phones and other users through this service just like you can with regular cell usages, and just like the calls, it’s cross platform!

With Google’s newest OS, Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 on the rise, Google has made strides in integrating the service into the Android OS; you have the option to use Google Voice for all of your calls, saving your precious minutes for those customers that love to chat. You can even keep your own number to prevent the need to let everyone know your new number, or if you desire, you can pick your own new number and even have suggestions around your name i.e.: 555-555-BILL, which is actually quite nifty. When someone calls your number, you’re notified everywhere you have a Google Service, and can answer the same way; on your computer, tablet, or Android phone, and if you can’t answer right away, the caller can leave a voicemail. When the caller finishes this voicemail, Google Voice will attempt to transcribe the voicemail into a text so you can read what the voicemail said.

If this doesn’t have your mouth watering already, let’s say for example someone…undesirable calls; on a normal cell phone, you can just reject the call, but what if you don’t know the number? Google Voice requires all callers to say their name prior to sending the call, allowing the user to hear who’s calling, and politely reject the call, and not making it completely obvious you rejected the call. Just like a phone record, you can have a log of numbers that ingrates all of your contacts into your phonebook on all Google devices you have, and while sync all new contacts you make as well. If you have not tried Google Voice yet, you have no reason not to, it’s a completely free service that connects the user to a completely new variety of services that normal cell phones just don’t offer right now. Give Google Voice a shot readers, you won’t regret it!

Samsung i9250 Galaxy Nexus is the joint venture of latest collaboration between Google and Samsung. Galaxy Nexus is the revolution in the smartphone industry. It becomes the first new Android handset to run Google’s Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” Operating system, bringing a refined interface, improvements to the multitasking performance, as well as the ability to “face-unlock” your phone using the Galaxy Nexus‘s built in facial recognition technology.

Samsung has in turn paired Google’s new operating system with a powerful set of hardware, including a 1.2GHz Dual core processor, 16 or 32GB of internal memory, 1GB RAM, a rear-facing 5MP camera with LED flash that promises “zero shutter lag” for photography and also shoots 1080p HD video at 30fps, as well as a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera for video calling.

The simple and quite delicate appearance, fine animations and effects are lovely and become alive at the same time. Text lists with icons are replaced with large images and bold text like a magazine. While nothing is set in stone, it seems Verizon aka “Big Red” and the popular movie rental kiosk Redbox, have teamed up to bring you the next big online media powerhouse. Their goal is to provide the customer with online media streaming like mobile FIOS TV (which we can all fall in love with) on all of their Android mobile devices and movie rentals at participating Redbox kiosks.

By undercutting other media streaming giants like Netflix and Hulu, Verizon and Redbox plan on undercutting the competition with $6 a month media streaming AND 1 Redbox rental at a time, unlike Netflix’s current $7.99 for unlimited streaming OR one disk rental according to an insider familiar with the plan. Verizon and Redbox have refused to comment on the pricing as of this moment, but what is sure, is Verizon, bringing more capital to the table will own 65% of the share and Redbox will own 35% on this 30 million dollar venture.

With FIOS TV being available on mobile platforms, this will cause a huge increase of pressure to other broadcasting companies like Cox and Time Warner to create something similar. This however, may not be able to compete due to Verizon being now the largest cell phone carrier pushing their product, but we can all be sure there will be something new to offer their customers, be it lower costs, or new features.

Once news was released about the two huge companies teaming up, shares of Coinstar, Redbox’s parent company, rose 7%, this is something the stockholders believe can be a huge success, and it’s really hard to argue against the duo. Cheaper prices, mobile TV, and Redbox rentals seem like an incredible idea. Both Redbox and Verizon are two increasingly successful companies, for them to join forces to make a better product is only natural.

One thing we can all agree on is that this can only end up good for the consumer. There can never be enough competition in the digital streaming world, now more than ever especially with many non-sanctioned media streaming like Megavideo and many others being taken down for piracy.

For these two giants to team up and offer great services for a low monthly cost is great. Whether you have Verizon or not, whether you ever wait in line to use Redbox or not, more and more people are switching to streaming media services and it can only be good for consumers for these two companies to bring us this service. Digital cable services and online media streaming companies now have something to worry about, and rightfully so. This will easily be a catalyst in the digital media age with all the companies offering new services to compete with the Verizon and Redbox duo.

Refurbished Xooms sold by Motorola

February 5th, 2012 by Noman

Motorola has admitted that they have committed a blunder by selling refurbished Xooms to new owners without wiping out the previous data from the set. The devices sold through woot.com between October and December 2011 contains affected devices. So far 100 out of 6200 sold devices are affected.

To make up for this blunder, Motorola will give previous owners of the affected tablets a complimentary two-year membership of Experian’s ProtectMyID Alert to mitigate any risks. This applies to those who returned their Xooms between March and October 2011. Those who bought these refurbished devices will be getting a $100 American Express gift card. All you have to do is ship the device back to Motorola (they’ll pay for it) and then they will wipe it clean for you and send it back.

Normally, it is expected that when people return any device they wipe out the data from it but some of the people don’t do that. Another important thing at company’s end is that when they resold the device it should be refurbished in factory condition. But Motorola was not able to do that. But it’s a big thing that atleast Motorola has admitted their mistake.

Dropbox offered a well-paid prize of everyone to test their next Android app. It’s a beta version of the release and the prize will be given to people who will take part in testing. Dropbox 2.0.9 introduces a cool new feature called camera upload – it lets your phone automatically upload whatever photos and videos you capture to your Dropbox account.

Just by downloading and using the beta App, you can get upto 5GB of extra space for your account. What you need to do is to set up your account and enable camera upload feature.

As soon as you upload the first photo, you’ll instantly get the 500 MB installment into your account. Afterwards, you will get another 500 MB bonus for every 500MB of pictures or videos which you upload. You can even exceed the 5GB limit that Dropbox normally imposes on the free accounts.

No need to worry about your monthly bill because the auto upload doesn’t have to lead to high charges. You can set your uploads to take place only over Wi-Fi networks, so your smartphone doesn’t use its 3G connection for this.

Got an Amazon Kindle Fire tablet with Android? Now you can *unofficially* upgrade it to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. Amazon has not yet announced offering Kindle Fire with Android 4.0 but still you can get a hack which is currently available at XDA forums. The user Jackpot Clavin has released a pre-alpha version of Android 4.0 (ICS) for Kindle Fire Tablets.

The latest zip of this update has a major feature: it now works with Audio functionality. There were some bugs in the first release of this unofficial OS. The audio did not work properly in the early version which was announced in December 2011. The latest version solves the bugs with Audio but still has
problems with video playback.

If you like to install Android 4.0 in your Kindle Fire device, you just need to follow a simple step by step process. First of all, download the entire zip package from the XDA developer forum. Then install it to your Kindle Fire using this guide. Be sure to follow all the warnings before installing the OS in your Kindle Fire.

One another pitfall of this package is that, you won’t get access to Android Market and Google Apps inbuilt after the installation. You will need to install all these apps separately on your Kindle Fire tablet. You should also note that the zip package we are talking about is just an early build. So you may not get each and everything working properly after the installation on your Kindle Fire. The process of installation is quite simple if you know how to root your Kindle Fire and how to play with code and also, you are a developer. After all, you won’t like spending money for re-installation of your current OS if this early release Android 4.0 does not work for you.

Over the last 2 months serious controversy has arose over the availability of an update on the Latin America Galaxy Nexus that we shipped out. Several users have expressed disappointment that they felt their device was not “update-able”. Our customer service reps were adequately trained in this regard and were instructed to advise the customer that there will be an update; that these devices are update-able. We have received many disappointing calls from customers claiming to have spoken to a Samsung Representative stating that the device they possess is not eligible for an upgrade. They were wrong. We were right. Below you will find an image of the Latin American Galaxy Nexus offering an OTA upgrade. How can this be? It’s because it’s now being pushed to the devices.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus LTA Update

An OTA Update for the Galaxy Nexus

This entire time we were in contact with a representative from Samsung LTA (Latin America) who adamantly relayed the message to us numerous times: “These devices are upgradeable”, which we passed on to you, the customer. We recevied calls, emails, threats and worst of all, returns! All unwarranted. We did all we could to convince you that you were receiving incorrect information from Samsung; but Samsung being a larger (more reputable-until today) company, you putyour trust into their representatives hands (and words).

We don’t hold grudges. We have 50 units of the GSM Galaxy Nexus from Latin America available and held for all customers who returned their items thinking they would not be able to upgrade to the newest Android OS. We want you to trust us. We want you to love what you buy. We will do all we can to make sure you are satisfied with your device, and with us. That’s our promise to you.
