On it’s Twitter, T-Mobile announced that it will be carrying the Motorola Charm, a small portrait QWERTY phone with a landscape touchscreen. The phone will run on Android 2.1 with MotoBlur and sport a Kodak branded 3-megapixel camera, WiFi, and a second microphone for noise-cancellation. The phone will drop for $74.99 on contract.

Research in Motion’s newest phone, the Blackberry Torch, is already seeing price reductions on online retailers – as much as 50% off at site likes Amazon.com and Wirefly.com.

The Blackberry Torch, which sports a full touch-screen and a sliding keyboard, was released only last week but received bad reviews from many review sites, leading to disappointing sales for RIM. While this is arguably RIM’s best Blackberry device, the phone pales in comparison to the current feature smartphones running iOS or Android.

Nokia’s N8 is now available to US residents for $549 unlocked. Those that order the phone can expect the order to arrive by the end of September. The Nokia N8 will run on Symbian^3, sport a 12 megapixel camera, a capacitive touchscreen, 16GB of internal memory, and records video at 720p. Currently, there is no word on what the carrier will be.

For those who own either the Droid Incredible or Motorola Droid from Verizon, expect to get your Froyo update soon. Motorola Droid owners have been able to download Android 2.2, but, according to Verizon, owners will get a second Froyo update sometime in September. The new update will allow users to download Flash 10.1 from the Android store, once it is out.

According to Mashables.com, Droid Incredible users will receive their update for Android 2.2 on August 18. Like the 2.2 updates, the update for the Incredible will also bring Flash 10.1, faster processing speeds, USB tethering and Wi-Fi hotspot functionality to the mobile OS.

The Samsung Captivate and Samsung Vibrant and other Galaxy S phones have been experience GPS problems since their release due to a bunk positioning server that is used to associate towers to geographical locations. The problem has nulled the ability of users to use any GPS function in their phones, a vexing problem for many. Today, Samsung has revealed on its Twitter page when users can expect a fix.

The R2-D2 version on the Droid 2 has been announced to drop September 30. The phone sports an R2-D2 design on the back, but other differences between this and the original Droid 2 are currently unknown. See source for more details.

Today, Google released its new Voice Search application, which will allow users to perform functions on their phones using only voice commands. The function is only available to phones running on 2.2 and comes pre-installed with the Droid 2.
So far, Voice Search only has 12 “Voice Actions,” not including search, including navigation to locations, sending texts to contacts, and even leaving yourself a handy note to remind yourself about something. Users will still have to use their hands to complete the actions, however.

The Epic 4G, Sprint and Samsung’s highly anticipated Galaxy S phone, has finally been given a release date: August 31. The Epic 4G, Sprint’s 2nd Android phone that can run on 4G, will cost buys a large $249.99 – on contract. The Epic 4G is perhaps least like the other 3 Samsung Galaxy S phones. Like the other Samsung phones, the Epic has a a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, 1GHz processor, a 5 megapixel camera, and runs on Android 2.1. However, the differences from the other Galaxy S phones is what makes this phone special. The Epic has a slide-down QWERTY keyboard, LED flash for the camera, and able to connect to Sprint’s 4G network.

Those interested in the Epic 4G will be able to reserve a phone for in-store pick-up on August 13, if they are worried about shortages, and will need to pick up the phone by September 1. Those who are premier Sprint customers are able to reserve the phone earlier by going to this link.

If you’re wondering which Sprint 4G phone is better, the Evo or the Epic, the network posted a video that shows a side-by-side comparison of the two phones.

You can now pre-order the Droid 2 from the Verizon website. The Android phone will cost $199.99 with a 2-year contract and comes with Android 2.2 (Froyo), a slide-down QWERTY keyboard, 3.7inch screen, 8GB of internal memory, and a 5 megapixel camera. Owners can also pay an additional $20/month to use Verizon’s 3G mobile WiFi hotspot capability.

For those that don’t want to pre-order, the Droid 2 is available in-stores tomorrow.  The Droid 2 could also be purchased from Negri Electronics, by following this link.

Today, Verizon launched a site for the special edition of the Droid 2: the R2-D2 edition. The site, pictured above, merely shows the shadow of R2-D2 with the infamous Droid glowing eye at the moment. A visit to the site does not offer many details to interested visitors on what makes the device different from the regular Droid 2. The site, at the moment, has very few features that are accessible,  except a link to the Droid’s twitter, which will “unlock details” or a place for visitors to submit their email to receive updates on pricing and availability of the device. There is locked content in the background that show what the site may soon offer to visitors, such as a Star Wars ™ soundboard, wallpapers, a look at some Apps and Widgets, and Jedi Training.

The Droid 2 R2-D2 edition will launch in September in limited quantities and will, according to Verizon, “feature exclusive Star Wars content and external hardware designed to look like the trusty Droid from the film saga.”
